Celpe Bras

What is CELPE-BRAS?

The Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese for Foreigners (Celpe-Bras) is the official Brazilian exam to certify proficiency in Portuguese as a foreign language. The exam is applied every six months in Brazil and abroad by Inep, with support from the Ministry of Education (MEC) and in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The tests are carried out at applicators: institutions of higher education, diplomatic representations, consular missions, cultural centers and institutes, and other institutions interested in the promotion and dissemination of the Portuguese language.

UFES and CELPE-BRAS

Since 2016, the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) has been a test center that offers the exam. In order to improve the training and qualification of the exam proctors, in addition to their critical reflection when teaching Portuguese to foreigners (PLE), a research group was created under the supervision and coordination of professor and doctor Santinho Ferreira de Souza.
